Don’t Use Tri Levlen without reading this information

Tri Levlen (also called Levlen) works a little differently in preventing pregnancy than other popular contraceptive pills in that it mimics a woman’s natural menstrual cycle in the way that it releases its combination of homones. If ovulation is prevented pregnancy cannot occur. If a fertilized egg cannot embed and grow in the uterus (womb) pregnancy cannot occur. Not every woman can use Tri Levlen!

Do not use this hormonal birth control pill in these situations

• if you are pregnant or think that you may be (i.e. you have missed your period) as it can cause birth deffects in some instances- tell your doctor at once
• if you have just had a baby
• don’t take Tri Levlen for at least 4 weeks if you are breastfeeding a newborn- if you do, you risk harming your baby as Tri Levlen passes through breast milk and it may also slow down the production of your milk
• if you have a history of blood clotting, stroke or heart problems (or a valve disorder) or high blood pressure
• if you have uterine or breast cancer
• diabetes, liver disease
• severe, prolonged or abnormal mentrual bleeding
• if you suffer from migraines, or have been jaundiced while taking another brand of contraceptive pill

• especially do not take Tri Levlen if you are a smoker who is over 35 because you will increase your risk of stroke or of suffering a heart attack

Every person on this planet is unique so do not assume that because a particular contraceptive pill, like Tri Levlen, has adversely affected your friend OR has suited her very well, that it will do the same for you. We all react to medications differently, age, habits and lifestyle affect the effectiveness of what we put inside our bodies, especially medications (and the combinations of those medications)
If you are taking Tri Levlen already, please tell your doctor if you ever have to go into hospital for an operation, need rehabilitation or bed rest for any length of time- it may be necessary for you to adjust your method of birth control during this period and stop taking Tri Levlen for a while. Sensibly managing the changing phases of our reproductive lives is a small price to pay for the convenience and reassurance of stress free, effective contraception and planned families.

Make sure that you take the correct dosage.

Like most oral contraceptive pills, a single Tri Levlen pill should be taken once a day i.e one pill every 24 hours. Each pack contains enough pills for one full cycle. Take the pills in order, according to the leaflet inside the pack and begin a new course as soon as one course has been fully taken. Do not allow gaps between courses/packs or your protection will be reduced and you could fall pregnant. Try to get into a habit of always having the next course of Tri Levlen on hand- this way you will never run out or be in a position where you are unable to get your next prescription filled.
