Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo

Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo, the clever yet mild oral contraceptive

Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo is a new, milder ’style’ of contraceptive pill- one that combines three levels of hormones instead of the traditional two.

Ortho Tricyclen Lo : pill pack
each white tablet contains 0.025 mg ethinyl estradiol and 0.180 mg of norgestimate
each light blue tablet contains 0.025 mg of ethinyl estradiol and 0.215 mg norgestimate
each dark blue tablet contains 0.025 mg of ethinyl estradiol and 0.250 mg of norgestimate
(Ortho Tricyclen and Ortho-Cyclen, each with 0.035 mg of ethinyl estradiol, contain slightly higher amounts of estrogen in each type of pill than Ortho Tricyclen Lo)

With Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo you no longer have to worry about unpredictable side effects such acne or extra hair growth. In preventing pregnancy, this modern birth control pill may be mild but its function within your body is clever and complex.

Why are the pills in 4 different colours?
Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo is a triphasic birth control pill, which means that it delivers a different level of hormones for 3 weeks (white, light blue and dark blue pills) and no hormones for 1 week (green pills). During each of the first 3 weeks, the level of progestin increases.

Many women and girls who have found topical acne treatments to be ineffective, have taken Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo and found it to be a good remedy for treating this demoralising condition. Due to its mild formula, Ortho Tri-Clyclen Lo can be taken from the age of fifteen, providing a regular menstruation is occurring.

Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo has an advantage of over many of the other contraceptive pills, in that it has been designed to change a woman’s hormones levels in as natural a way as possible. Our hormones are released in varying quantities throughout our menstrual cycle- Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo mimics this as closely as possible by releasing the exact amount of synthetic hormones needed at the appropriate point in the menstrual cycle.

Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo is not prescribed for everyone so be responsible and check with you doctor before taking any oral contraceptive pill.

As with all oral contraceptives, it can take 7 days before contraception is effective so when you first take Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo use some form of additional birth control such as a spermicide and condoms for this period.

Are there reasons why I shouldn’t take Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo?

Do not take Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo if:

  • you have just had a baby or you are pregnant
  • have a history of stroke, high blood pressure or blood clotting problems
  • you have been diagnosed with cancer (especially a hormonal type) or liver problems
  • you suffer migraine headaches

Listen to you body - and stop taking Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo at once if you have strong pain in your abdomen or severe headaches or your vision goes blurry or your arms/legs start to swell. It is trial and error with any new medication you use for the first time so report any strong reaction from Ortho Tri- Cyclen Lo to your doctor straightaway. There is information on other contraceptive pills on this site that may suit you better.

If I have a common reaction to Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo what could it be?

You only need to consult a doctor if you find any spotting or slight bleeding persists after a couple of weeks (or if it gets worse) Until your body gets used to its new levels of hormones you may experience some common side effects including nausea and possibly vomiting. Often this disappears after the taking the first course but many woman find that taking the pill when they go to bed (i.e. not on an empty stomach) helps to alleviate this.

Even though Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo is firm but gentle at controlling those little swimmers -as with any prescription medication, Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo should be taken responsibly and you should see your doctor if side effects do not abate or worsen. Everyone’s pill taking habits are different so try to be in tune with your body when you start your initial course of Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo and be aware of any changes that take place- this way you will give yourself the best chance of discovering if this mild but effective contraceptive pill is an agreeable form of birth control for you.

For acne control or a ‘gentler’ form of birth control pill, purchase Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo (type name into search box on site) in a 21 day pack or a 28 day pack
