About this Site

Welcome to a new contraceptive review site for women (and well done if you are a modern male visitor interested in discussing responsible birth control with your female partner, there will information on male contraceptives here too)

Have you ever considered your management of contraceptives as your ‘Contraception Career?

If you think about it this way, there are a lot of similarities to a ‘regular’ career in that the decisions you make affect your life and that of others, increases your knowledge through study, research and practise. Through trial and error you find out things you didn’t know before, make mistakes and correct them and progress. You also go through tough patches in managing and developing relationships (some succeed, others fail) and you learn to negotiate and ask questions. You may even have to monitor or check results, make adjustments or major changes- sometimes more than once throughout your ‘career’.

The information on this web site is provided by me, Carole Pemberton, to empower anyone who is, or is considering becoming, sexually active and wishes to safely and responsibly manage her/his methods of birth control or ‘contraception career’- after all, contraception (or the lack of it!) can impact on our education, career and future life. I believe balanced, true facts should be laid out without prejudice or judgment in a way that can be easily understood- that is my intention here.

I am an ex-teacher and shall only post information that I have researched thoroughly, including the latest news if it is ‘worthy’ of presenting to you. It can be confusing and overwhelming to be confronted with the may different types of contraceptives out there- especially for teens and young women who are exploring their sexuality for the first time. Hopefully the guides, tips and videos posted on this site will give you simple and accurate information that will enable and empower you to make the decisions about the type of birth control methods that are right for YOU during your ‘contraception career’.

I hope that this site will become a favourite ’stop over’ for you and your friends to keep yourselves up to date with the contraceptive scene and provide you with plenty of ‘cafe latte’ conversation topics!

Yes, the oral contraceptive pill is very popular and convenient but it does not ‘agree’ with everyone. The various types of ‘the pill’ reviewed on this site also have the most common side effects listed. Do not despair if you cannot or do not wish to take oral contraceptives, they do affect your body’s hormones and there are other safe and reliable methods that will be explained.

As with many products, complaints are voiced much more than compliments - it is the same with oral contraceptives. Many women’s forums feature bad experiences from women taking various birth control pills because they are trying to share with/help/warn others, which is as it should be. However, keep in mind that the majority of women on oral contraceptives have had the opposite outcome and are delighted with their sexual ‘freedom’, relief from the symptoms of endometriosis, acne, heavy, irregular periods and avoidance of laparoscopies (a surgical procedure used when a ’scraping’ is performed for endometriosis).

Take charge of your own health- discuss any issues about contraception with a medical practitioner whom you trust as well as with your partner. When trialling an oral contraceptive pill in particular, try to distinguish ‘normal’ menstrual problems you experience from any that may be a direct result of taking ‘the pill’. After all, who hasn’t been irritable, felt bloated, tired and moody during her cycle! Learn to be ‘in tune’ with your body and if symptoms worsen or do not fade after a few weeks, go to a doctor.

A Reminder for ‘first timers’ - just in case you are wondering - no contraceptive on the market at present, apart from a condom, will protect you from HIV or any other sexually transmitted disease so.. girls.. ‘if it’s ‘not on’…it’s ‘not on’ eh?
